Top 5 Reasons PDGA Events are Awesome

Disc Golf Tournaments come in many different shapes and sizes. For first timers and beginners we recommend playing in a weekly or monthly event at your local course to get your feet wet. That being said, it is a great experience on a whole different level when you participate in a Professional Disc Golf Association Tournament. Below a few of the reasons why.

1. Better Competition:
Disc Golfers that attend PDGA events tend to know the rules of the game this gives them the uncanny ability to follow them. They also take the game seriously since their performance in these tournaments affect their player rating.

2. Better Turnouts:
More people means better prizes and more payouts. Pro players win cash and Ams get merchandise such as discs or apparel. More players also means more player divisions. This allows players of similar skill levels to play rounds of golf together. Examples of divisions are Professional, Amateur, Intermediate and Recreational. Plus there are other divisions for different age groups and genders.

3. Smoother Rate of Play:
When a weekly or monthly event takes place on a disc golf course, casual players who may not know about the tournament can attempt to play on the course at the same time. Oftentimes, this slows the rate of play and negatively affects overall tournament experience. However, when a tournament director schedules a PDGA Event, the course is closed to causal players that are not participating in the tournament.

4. Play Next to World Champions:
A and B tier events have bigger prizes purses which draw better competition to the stage and often times you’ll find yourself playing next to a Disc Golf World Champion. What other sport do you know of that allows amateur and recreational players to participate in the same place as the best in the sport?

5. Enjoy the Tour Community:
If you play a few PDGA Events you will soon discover that friendly and familiar faces tend to appear. Some players travel all over their state or even across the country to play the best courses around. Seeing the smiling faces of players that are having fun participating in a game they love is what makes all the preparation, entry fees and traveling well worth it.

Thanks for finding out why we love attending and playing in PDGA Touraments and we hope to see you at one in the near future. Keep in mind that if Sublime Flight is attending, we will have new and used discs for sale so check out our selection.

Now, log on the the PDGA website by clicking the link at the bottom of this article to see where and when these events are taking place in your area and sign up for a PDGA Tournament. What makes Disc Golf Great?

Would you like to play a rapidly growing sport that is easy to get started in and is lots of fun to play? Disc Golf has many terrific qualities that make it different that any other sport and below we have outlined a few of them.

1. It is free to play recreational Disc Golf. Discs are the only thing the player must buy and we recommended to play with at least three discs. (A driver, a midrange and a putter.)

2. Discs are designed to fly differently which makes watching the disc flight very interesting especially when the disc lands on the green. Types of flights: Straight, Hyzer(left), Anhyzer(right), Loft, Roller and the distance S shot.

3. There are different types of throws that control the flight of the disc which adds an even greater element of variety. Types of Throws: Backhand, Forehand(Flick or Side-arm), thumber and tomahawk

4. Disc Golf is a Lifetime sport which means all age groups can play. Most courses have Pro and Am pads that the recreational player may choose to throw from.

5. Disc golf is physical activity that incorporates the beauty of nature. This sport helps to develop flexibility and muscle memory. Get a healthy dose fresh air and exercise by walking the fairways which often resemble a hiking trail more than a ball golf fairway. Hear the calming sounds of wildlife and admire the ancient trees that surround the course.

6. Disc golf is a game that can be used to develop mental toughness. Patience, focus, concentration, edict, communication skills and sportsmanship are a few of the qualities that can be enhanced by playing disc golf.

What is Disc Golf?

Disc Golf is an outdoor game that is played a lot like traditional Golf (Ball Golf). The player must play through an eighteen hole course by throwing a Frisbee-like Disc from a concrete Tee Pad into a metal basket in the fewest number of throws. The basket has chains hanging above it to help catch the player’s Disc. The player who has the fewest number of throws at the end of the 18 hole course wins. There are a variety of course designs across the world. Some courses are very technical and are laid out in wooded areas with obstacles that force players to maneuver past them in order to reach the basket, while other courses are much more open which allows players who throw longs distances to have an advantage. Disc Golf is a fun, inexpensive and rewarding sport that can be enjoyed by players of any age. Visit our online shop and pick up some discs and visit your local course today.
